Zuma appoints special energy advisor

Joburg’s former electricity boss is the new special advisor on energy to President Jacob Zuma.

The Presidency made the announcement of the appointment of Silas Mzingeli Zimu in a statement.

“We welcome Zimu to the Presidency and we are certain that his considerable experience and expertise in matters of energy will greatly contribute to the work being done to mitigate and resolve the energy challenge‚” said the director-general in the Presidency‚ Dr Cassius Lubisi.

The statement said Zimu was “an electrical engineer by qualifications and training”‚ and “has previously served at among other institutions‚ Eskom as an engineer and different management positions; and Johannesburg City Power as managing director”.

Zimu was most recently appointed CEO of Suzlon Wind Energy South Africa in November 2010.
