City Power moves to prevent total blackout in Randburg

 ·29 Jul 2015

City Power announced a power outage in the Randburg area on Wednesday, in an attempt to prevent a total blackout.

The electricity supplier said in a statement that it is currently conducting load shifting due to a technical problem with an Eskom transformer which feeds City Power.

“This results in overload problems on the remaining Eskom transformer. Therefore, to prevent a total blackout of the Randburg substation, City Power is forced to rotate customers until Eskom resolves the transformer malfunction,” the supplier said.

“Eskom technicians are on site and working around the clock to restore the transformer that supplies power to the Randburg substations,” according to City Power.

The following areas will be affected by load rotation:

  • Randpark Ridge Ext 4/5
  • Ruiterhof
  • Ferndale
  • Fontainebleau
  • Malanshof
  • Blairgowrie
  • Moret
  • Klipfontein
