These are the top-performing shares in South Africa – 6 months in

 ·16 Jul 2023

Mining companies have scored big this year on the JSE, with Alphamin Resources Corp boasting a year-to-date total return of 66.65%.

Both DRDGold and Gold Fields, two gold production companies, came in second and third with 65.85% and 58.34%, respectively.

Alphamin Resources Corp is an international mining and manufacturing corporation listed on the JSE that operates one of the world’s highest-grade tin mines.

As a result of stocks consistently fluctuating and many rising rapidly, the likelihood that someone would be able to ‘time the dip’ is very low.

For this reason, it is important for South Africans not to try and time the market, said Wayne McCurrie from FNB’s Wealth and Investments.

As reported by DailyInvestor, he said that it is important for investors or people wishing to purchase equities to, rather than try and predict the market’s bottom, take advantage of the situation if they believe the shares are attractively priced.

“Negative news typically dominates when a share collapses, so avoid being swayed solely by it. Instead, base your decisions on valuations, as extremely good and bad news tends to influence market sentiment disproportionately,” McCurrie added.
