Radio DJ Jeremy Mansfield announces 2019 DA election run – and people aren’t happy
Well-known radio personality Jeremy Manfsield has announced a shock entrance into politics – prompting massive backlash on social media.
In a New Year’s message posted to his official Facebook Page, Mansfield indicated that he would run for a position in the democratic Alliance as part of the 2019 National elections campaign.
The message reads:
Belated New Year greetings. May 2017 bring blessings to our country, its people and animals. I will be trying to make my contribution. After years of badgering my school mate Ross Purdon (MP) has finally convinced me to run for the DA in the 2019 elections. So the work starts now!
While many congratulated Mansfield on his move into politics, there was also wide-ranging criticism surrounding the decision with many claiming that Mansfield was using his personality status to gain an upper-hand, while other critics pointed to issues in his personal life bringing into question his character.
This prompted a further response by Mansfield addressing his critics.
Wow! Amazed at some of the accusations and vitriol posted on my site after my last post saying I had agreed to run for the DA in the next election. I have been accused of wife abuse, entering politics for financial gain and been told I am not a pleasant person for a variety of reasons. And that’s before I’ve even gone into politics! I am already starting to grow my thick skin, because when I am there I will be even more vocal. I think Louise Huisamenn summed it up in a post by saying why are (you) on my Facebook page if you hate me so much. Unfriend me!
