The leaders at the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) and the Department of Communications (DoC) earn between R1-million and R2-million per year – give or take a few thousand.

ICASA’s annual report for the year ending 31 March 2012 revealed that the regulator’s chairperson Stephen Mncube was paid R1.3 million per year.

However, Mncube was not the best paid ICASA employee. The ICASA CEO Themba Dlamini was paid R1.7 million per year.

Each ICASA councillor earned just over R1 million per year, while general managers at the regulator were paid R923,541 per year.

Communications minister Dina Pule and deputy minister Stella Ndabeni earned R2 million and R1.65 million respectively over the last financial year.
