Incompetence and corruption: the twin evils of Dina Pule
Jonathan Jansen, the vice-chancellor and rector of the University of the Free State, slated communications minister Dina Pule on Twitter, calling her incompetent and corrupt.
Over the last year Pule was the subject of numerous media reports which alleged mismanagement and possible corruption.
The latest report, which appeared in the Sunday Times on 24 March, stated that Pule’s boyfriend Phosane Mngqibisa “has infiltrated the various entities supposedly under Pule’s authority”.
According to the newspaper an internal audit showed that Mngqibisa “engineered getting friends and relatives on the boards of the Post Office, Sentech, Usasa, and the SABC with the full knowledge of Pule”.
Earlier newspaper reports alleged that there was financial mismanagement with the ICT Indaba held in Cape Town involving the minister’s boyfriend, unlawful actions in the awarding of a set-top box contract, political meddling in running the SABC and interference in Telkom.
Jansen lashed out at Pule on the popular social network Twitter, stating that “In one person, Dinah [sic] Pule, you will find the twin evils of our collapse: incompetence and corruption”.

In a previous tweet Jansen called Pule the worst minister in South Africa, while naming the Minister of Health Aaron Motsoaledi as the best minister.
Pule in turn slammed allegations of nepotism against her and her boyfriend as a smear campaign.
According to Pule’s spokesman Siza Qoza, Pule believed she was the victim of a “politically motivated smear campaign [that] is characterised by people throwing mud at her in the hope that something will stick”.
