How to fix South Africa in three steps

Dawie Roodt, a director and chief economist of the Efficient Group, has provided a three-step plan to fix South Africa and create a brighter future for the country.
Roodt was recently the victim of a violent housebreaking, which left him seriously injured. He had to undergo multiple operations and spent several days in hospital recovering.
Despite the harrowing event, Roodt said he is not leaving the country. Instead, he urged South Africans to fight back to improve South Africa.
In an open letter, Roodt said people should forget about government projects like the Industrial Policy Action Plan (IPAP) and the National Development Plan (NDP). “This is not going to happen,” said Roodt.
He said that three steps are all that is needed to fix South Africa:
- Begin a process where all state employees – including workers at state owned enterprises – must re-apply for their positions. All positions must be filled purely based on merit, and not on political contacts, favours, or social needs.
- Immediately establish a world-class skills development system in support of growing a flourishing economy.
- Remove all barriers which hinder employment. Don’t try to “create jobs”, but stop preventing people who are willing to work from creating their own work.
He said the first step is to hold politicians responsible for doing what needs to be done to make this a reality.
“Let’s stand up! Let’s walk together! Let us mobilise and refuse to commit crime, be intimidated, bribing, and support corrupt leaders,” said Roodt.
“Do not tell me it is not possible,” said Roodt. “It has been done before.”
