Samsung’s belated confirmation of MD’s resignation
Samsung Electronics South Africa has belatedly announced the resignation of its managing director Deon Liebenberg.
“Samsung Electronics South Africa today (17 July 2012) announced the resignation of its managing director, Mr Deon Liebenberg – effective 15 July 2012,” the group said.
The announcement by the electronics giant follows the news that Liebenberg joined Telkom as the new head of Telkom Business Mobile on 16 July 2012.
“Having spent the last year supporting Samsung’s substantial brand growth in the local market, I have decided that the time has come to move on,” Liebenberg is quoted as saying.
“Samsung Electronics South Africa has a very strong and capable team, and over the past 12 months we have achieved the milestones I was originally tasked with – ensuring Samsung South Africa is a brand synonymous with innovation.”
George Ferreira COO and vice president at Samsung Electronics Africa, said that the group remains thankful for Liebenberg’s contribution to the brand.
BusinessTech first reported on 21 June 2012 that Liebenberg was set to join Telkom as head of its Telkom Business Mobile division, but Samsung denied that Liebenberg was leaving the company at the time.
