Toshiba South Africa shows 200% sales growth
Toshiba South Africa has shown over 200% growth in sales in 2011, and is expecting to maintain and even grow this sales volume in 2012. This is word from Jorge da Silva, Toshiba SA channel manager.
Da Silva said that the economic crisis means that they don’t expect to see the same growth this year as they did in 2012, but that Toshiba expects to maintain and improve on the 2011 sales figures.
Toshiba SA’s best-selling product ranges include their C and L series laptops in the consumer market, and the Portege and Tecra R-series laptops in the business market.
Toshiba’s strong notebook presence raises the question as to whether the popularity of tablet PCs will impact Toshiba’s laptop sales in SA.
Da Silva is, however, not too concerned, saying that he does not see tablets affecting notebook sales. “I think the sector that it will hit harder will be the netbook section, and Toshiba do not focus on volume netbook sales,” says De Silva.
Toshiba SA is also not planning to become a big player in the local tablet PC market, giving an indication that the company will continue their successful focus on more traditional computing products.
When it came to Toshiba’s local strategy this year, Da Silva did not want to divulge competitor sensitive information, simply saying “I prefer that our competitors don’t see us coming”.
