Citiq Launches Unified Utility Management App, Introduces ‘Citiq Advance’ Fintech Solution

 ·29 Oct 2026

Smart sub-metering and utility management company Citiq has officially launched its new mobile application, consolidating its previously separate tenant and property owner platforms into a single, unified digital ecosystem.

The app, now available on the Google Play Store, leverages new technologies to reduce friction and deliver a streamlined experience for both property managers and residents.

A Seamless Digital Experience

The consolidated app represents a significant operational shift for the company, moving away from fragmented user journeys to a centralized command center for utility management.

“The primary goal behind the launch of our new website and app was to put the power of utility management directly into our users’ hands,” says Thula Zungu, Technical Director at Citiq.

The new platform is designed to create a seamless digital experience that removes the guesswork from prepaid electricity and water.

Recognizing the fast-paced nature of modern life, the app prioritizes instant access, transparent billing, and an expanded national recharge network that allows customers to top up their utilities anytime, anywhere.

By increasing accessibility and removing everyday friction, the technology aims to empower both landlords and tenants to focus on their core priorities.

Citiq Advance: A Fintech Safety Net

A major pillar of the new application is the introduction of Citiq Advance, a fintech feature available exclusively on tenant profiles within the app.

Designed to counter the highly predatory practices often found in the South African unsecured lending market, the product allows users to access electricity immediately and pay later.

Harry O’conor, Commercial Director at Citiq, explains that the product acts as a compassionate safety net for households facing unpredictable financial months.

“The inspiration for Citiq Advance was to design a cheaper, fairer product with more lenient repayment terms so that the moms and the kids at home don’t have to decide whether to give up electricity or food at the end of the month,” says O’conor.

By analyzing internal data, Citiq recognized that South Africans budget tightly for electricity month-to-month, leaving little room to absorb unexpected expenses without sacrificing essential services like Wi-Fi or hot water.

Citiq Advance provides flexibility and fairness, ensuring that a temporary financial hurdle does not escalate into a household crisis.

The service allows tenants to keep the lights running while giving them the ability to adjust their budgets over a longer repayment period.

Evolving Beyond the Meter

This unified app launch is part of a broader strategic shift for the company as it redefines its market position. Citiq is evolving from its roots as a traditional submetering hardware

provider, where the focus was simply on SABS-approved meters and cost recovery into a comprehensive landlord services company and visionary utility partner.

By prioritizing human-centered technology, transparent billing, and fair financial products, Citiq aims to create an environment where seamless access to essentials is the standard across South African properties.

As the company continues to expand its digital footprint, the underlying principle for future product developments will remain focused on providing the fairest and most accessible tools in the market.
