Internet service providers (ISPs) continue to drive down the price of ADSL services on the back of IPConnect rate cuts by Telkom on 1 April 2012.

In the latest round of price reductions Afrihost launched the most affordable bundled uncapped ADSL products in South Africa, while Openweb unveiled a 1Mbps uncapped ADSL account for under R100 per month.

Afrihost has launched its uncapped ADSL bundles today (6 June 2012), starting at R297 per month for an uncapped account and ADSL line rental. The company’s 10Mbps uncapped ADSL accounts and ADSL access is priced at R897 per month, well below its competitors.

“Afrihost recognizes that the barrier of entry for many consumers is not so much the cost of bandwidth, but rather the total cost of a broadband solution,” said Afrihost CEO Gian Visser.

“By introducing the most affordable ADSL bundles South Africa has ever seen, Afrihost is launching an aggressive attack against the high cost of fixed bandwidth installations.”

Openweb has unveiled their standard uncapped ADSL promotion today, offering 1Mbps uncapped ADSL accounts for R99 per month. The accounts are shaped during busy periods and unshaped when the network is quiet.

Openweb is also offering a 2Mbps uncapped account at R249 per month, a 4Mbps uncapped account at R409 per month and a 10Mbps uncapped ADSL account at R899 per month.
