PayU launches SME merchant platform

 ·4 Sep 2012

PayU has launched the EasyMerchant platform to make e-commerce more accessible for small to medium size enterprises (SMEs).

PayU is a Naspers-owned online and mobile payments service provider, which provides e-wallet and payment gate services.

“Start-ups and SMEs need a quick and simple way to take their business online. PayU’s EasyMerchant enables an online business to get up and running, quickly,” said PayU CEO, Mark Chirnside.

EasyMechant aims to make e-business simpler for SMEs, providing the platform for online retailers to authorise credit card purchases, process them and deposit the proceeds into the company’s account.

According to the SME Survey 2012 conducted by World Wide Worx, 410,000 SMEs in South Africa have a website, representing 63% of active, formal SMEs.

The research also revealed that SMEs with a website are far more likely to turn a high profit than those without.

“EasyMerchant will, therefore, assist SMEs to leverage their websites from marketing tools into active, high profit retail sites,” PayU said.
