These are the best cars in South Africa
Cars.co.za held its annual Consumer Choice Awards on Thursday, naming the winners of South Africa’s best cars across 12 categories.
The winners were sleceted in two phases: the first phase involved research, analysis and debate on all contenders by the Cars.co.za editorial team.
In the second phase, the cars were assessed and scored on specific criteria, such as comfort, performance, efficeincy, etc.
The winners were judged by the editorial team as well as guest judges, and included the results of the Cars.co.za Owner Satisfaction Survey.
Here are the winners of each category (including the requirements of eligibility).
Car brand of the year – Toyota

Best Compact Car – Ford Focus 1.0T Trend
(List price not exceeding R250,000)

Best Premium Hatchback – VW Golf GTI DSG
(A C-segment hatchback/crossover with a list price of between R300,000 and R500,000)

Best Business Class car – Mercedes-Benz C250 AMG Sport
(List price of between R400,000 and R700,000)

Best First Class Car – Mercedes-Benz S500
(List price of more than R1 million)

Best Family Car – Citroen C4 Picasso e-HDI Intensive
(List price of less than R350,000)

Best Leisure Car – Land Rover Discovery Sport SD4 SE
(List price of less than R700,000)

Best Premium SUV – Volvo XC90 D5 Inscription
(List price in excess of R700,000)

Best “Fun Car” – Audi TT s Tronic
(List price of less than R600,000, entertaining handling, sensory appeal)

Best Budget Car – Renault Sandero Expression
(List price of R150,000 or less)

Design of the year – BMW i3
