FlySafair launches new route in South Africa

Low-cost airline, FlySafair has launched a new route between Lanseria International Airport and George Airport.
The airline will operate daily flight on this route, departing Lanseria at 10h10 in the morning, arriving at George at 12h20.
There will then be a flight departing George at 12h55 and arriving at Lanseria at 14h55.
Flights on this route commenced on 14 March 2025, with ticket pricing starting at R1,162, the group said. Terms and conditions apply.
FlySafair said that George, a small town in the Western Cape, is a gateway to the greater Garden Route, and is particularly popular with golfers.
“George itself is a picturesque, sleepy town. Golfers are especially spoilt in this area, which has a wide range of world-renowned courses between Mossel Bay and Plettenberg Bay,” it said.
George Airport is also the closest airport to the popular towns of Knysna, Groot Brak, and Oudtshoorn.
The new route is expected to appeal to both business and leisure travellers in the region.
“Following our commitment to expand and optimize our network, we are thrilled to introduce this new route,” said Kirby Gordon, Chief Marketing Officer at FlySafair.
“We have seen a growing demand for travel between Lanseria and George, and we are pleased to offer our customers more choices and flexibility.”

Delays now over
The new route has launched at a stressful time for the airline. Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) alerted passengers of delays and longer check-in times due to a systems outage over the weekend.
The issue has now been resolved, ACSA said, and normal check-ins should be back in effect.
ACSA said that an unspecified “systems issue” impacted FlySafair and competing low-cost carrier LIFT on Saturday and Sunday, where schedules were being maintained on backups.
Technical teams for the airlines are on high alert and are monitoring the systems to ensure smooth operations, the company said.
