The Oscar Pistorius trial, which starts today (3 March 2014) is expected to attract a global audience, and will be streamed online.

Pistorius, 27, is accused of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp at his Pretoria home last year. He faces charges of premeditated murder and contravening the Firearms Control Act in a trial which is expected to last at least three weeks.

In South Africa a TV channel dedicated to the murder trial of Oscar Pistorius has gone live before the double-amputee Olympian is expected in court.

The 24-hour channel, called “The Oscar Pistorius Trial – A Carte Blanche channel” is on South Africa’s most popular TV network and intends to show live video from the court from Monday.

The channel will feature the likes of former OJ Simpson defence attorney, Robert Shapiro, and consultants for hit TV shows, including Dexter.

Guests will offer insight and commentary on what happens in court during the trial. Experts will include senior legal minds, psychologists, forensic experts, social commentators, brand gurus, social media analysts, news and media heavyweights.

MultiChoice/DStv is one of the three broadcasters which asked a judge to allow live coverage of the trial and has installed three remote-controlled cameras in the courtroom in Pretoria.

Trial TV: The State vs Oscar Pistorius, which will run on OpenView HD Channel 119, will offer viewers live court proceedings from 10AM-4PM. Court proceedings will be repeated on the channel throughout the schedule.

The court proceedings will be broadcast live on television and radio, with the initial indictment listing 107 witnesses to testify for the State. The trial is due to start at 10am.
