South Africans can now order cookable meals through WeChat

WeChat has announced a new partnership with cooking start up UCook, which will allow South Africans to order take-home meals through the chat client.

UCook, an e-food delivery service, allows users to make their own meals using recipes and ingredients shipped directly to them.

While UCook has traditionally offered a subscription-based service the new partnership with UCook will, deliver boxes on a once-off basis.

As a result, both companies expect to see a shared increase in customer growth, WeChat said in statement.

All purchases are done through WeChat’s wallet system which can be topped up at any time.

The partnership follows an ongoing push by WeChat to gain traction in the South African market by partnering with retail clients through its wallet system.

The company already boasts relationships with Standard Bank, McDonalds South Africa, DStv and others.
