Nokia has officially announced the new Lumia 1520 Windows Phone 8 smartphone at an event in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, 22 October 2013.

News of the device emerged in August, with Reuters reporting that Nokia had a large-screen smartphone in the works that was set to launch in September 2013.

According to Reuters, these plans changed after Nokia and Microsoft announced a deal that would see the software giant acquire Nokia for 5.44-billion Euro.

Confirming many of the rumours and “leaks” that emerged ahead of the event, Nokia revealed that the device would boast a 1080p (1080×1920) 6-inch display and 20 megapixel PureView camera.
