A BMW dealership received special treatment and was allowed on MTN’s property to sell cars to staff because three MTN executives are directors at the dealership. This is according to a report by the City Press.

The City Press reported that the Sea Star Motors dealership lists MTN CEO Sifiso Dabengwa, MTN South Africa CEO Zunaid Bulbulia and MTN Group chief human resources and corporate affairs officer Paul Norman as directors.

MTN said that the dealership was only allowed on the MTN head office property once, and that Bulbulia is no longer a director at the company.

MTN added that the high ranking MTN executives were not “involved in facilitating the dealership’s presence at the head office”.

A City Press source, however, said that the directors were involved in facilitating the deal, and that they are now trying to cover it up.

The full report is available in the City Press of 27 October 2013.
