Vodacom to respond to MTN rate cut
Industry speculation suggests that Vodacom will respond to MTN’s recently launched flat rate of 79c per minute across all networks for its prepaid customers.
MTN’s 79c prepaid promotion is available to all Pay Per Second price plan subscribers, and will be available until 9 July 2014.
The price cut followed a reduction in call termination rates on 1 April 2014. However, when asked about the timing MTN did not answer the question directly, but said that consumer demand was behind its decision.
All eyes are now on Vodacom and Cell C to see if they will follow suit – and if industry speculation is to be believed, Vodacom will make an announcement soon.
Industry rumours suggest that Vodacom will reduce its prepaid call rates to match the 79c per minute promotion.
Vodacom was contacted for feedback regarding this issue, but the company could not immediately respond.
