Vodacom has announced plans to launch a new branded smartphone with Long Term Evolution (LTE) support – called the Vodafone Turbo – for below R1,500.

According to Vodacom, it is busy pushing to have its own brand associated with the Turbo locally, but it will finalise those details later.

The mobile network operator did not disclose specifications and contract deal information, but did say that the device is currently in testing.

If all goes well, the Vodafone Turbo could be available before the end of the year.

Vodacom currently offers its own LTE-capable Android smartphone, the Vodafone Smart 4 Power, for R2,759.

The mobile operator also recently launched its own tablet PC, the Vodacom Smart Tab 3G, for R999.
