Despite the continued crunch on new vehicle sales in South Africa in 2016, for some buyers, money is no object – as some figures published by Naamsa indicate.
South Africa has seen the launch of several luxury SUVs into the market over the past several months, including the Jaguar F-Pace, and Bentley’s Bentayga.
The latter is by far the most expensive SUV in the country to date, priced at R4 million. But despite its heft price tag, the car which can be purchased in Joburg exclusively, sold seven units in August alone, and has offloaded 13 in total.
The Bentayga features a 6.0-litre W12 that produces 447kW (600hp) and 900Nm of torque.
It goes from 0-100km/h in 4.0 seconds and reaches a top speed of 301km/h.
Bentley said the cabin of the car is as impressive as its performance, finished with wood, leather, and fine metal.
Standard features include an 8-speed automatic transmission with permanent all-wheel drive, and infotainment centre with Wi-Fi connectivity, and air suspension.
Jaguar’s new F-Pace SUV meanwhile, went on sale in July, with 52 units sold in August, according to Naamsa.
The manufacturer’s “most practical sports car” comes in a range of petrol and diesel models, with the entry-level F-Pace packing a 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces 132kW.
