Here are the 10 finalists for South African Car of the Year 2017
The finalists for the 2017 South African Car of the Year (COTY) competition have been announced by the South African Guild of Motoring Journalists, in conjunction with WesBank.
The finalists were announced during an interactive reveal event at The Country Club Johannesburg, Woodmead, on Tuesday.
The winner of the 2016 competition was the Volvo XC90 SUV, followed by the Ford Fusion, while the Mazda2 took third place.
The finalist reveal follows a vote cast by a 28-member Jury, elected by their peers, of an original list of 35 eligible vehicle ranges.
The finalists for the 2017 WesBank South African Car of the Year competition are as follows – in alphabetical order:
Audi A4 – Priced from R441,000
Honda Civic – Priced from R330,000
Hyundai Tucson – Priced from R369,900
Jaguar F-Pace – Priced from R776,800
Mazda CX-3 – Priced from R277,800
Opel Astra – Priced from R254,000
Renault Kadjar – Priced from R364,900
Toyota Fortuner – Priced from R438,000
Volkswagen Passat – Priced from R432,600
Volkswagen Tiguan – n/a
The competition now moves into high gear as preparations are made for two days of stringent evaluations at the beginning of February 2017.
The vehicles will be judged on the following criteria:
- Affordability
- Cabin Styling, Layout, and Ergonomics
- Engine
- Engineering Integrity and Build Quality
- Exterior Design
- Overall Excellence
- Ride Quality
- Steering and Handling
- Technology
- Transmission
- Value for money
The Jury will also have access to performance test data, comparative pricing and specification data, as well as comparative parts pricing data, compiled by the Guild’s digital partner, MAPO.
The winner will be revealed at a gala banquet on 15 March 2017.
