 ·7 Jul 2023

Lexus has launched its flagship SUV in South Africa – the Lexus LX – which is available at a starting price of R2,507,600.

“This is the fourth generation of the LX, offering comfortable ride quality and a long list of luxury amenities that have defined it as the ultimate long-range cruiser, while on the other hand, its tried-and-tested off-road specifications and equipment have taken it far beyond the pavement in more than 50 countries around the globe,” said Lexus.

Features

The new flagship from Lexus comes with the same “Tazuma” cockpit as the recently-launched NX.

This means the entire range will feature a dashboard that is moulded around the driver, including the instrument cluster, infotainment, and colour heads-up display, so as to reduce eye movements.

The range will also feature standard controls, including keyless start, gearshift, and driving modes, all conveniently located on the same plane for effortless and natural movement.

The vehicle’s multimedia system consists of two screens, one measuring 12.3 inches and the other 7.0 inches. These displays can be utilised to control various features, including the four-zone climate control.

Other notable features include:

  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto;
  • heated and ventilated front seats with lumbar support and memory functions;
  • paddle shifters;
  • a wireless charger;
  • satellite navigation;
  • a fingerprint ID for the keyless start, leather upholstery with Shimamoku wood trim;
  • a 25-speaker Mark Levinson Premium Surround Sound System; and
  • A panoramic camera, blind-spot monitors, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, emergency braking and steering assist, 22-inch alloy wheels, and adaptive LED headlights.

The new LX also offers different seating arrangements across its derivatives.

The 500d and 500d F Sport come with five seats, while the 600 comes with seven, and the 600 F Sport and 600 VIP come with four.

Performance

The LX is offered with two engine types, both of which include a 10-speed Direct Shift automatic gearbox.

The 500d features a powerful 3.3-litre V6 diesel engine that uses a newly designed twin-turbo system, producing 225kW and 700Nm of torque. It also operates efficiently, achieving average fuel consumption of 8.3l/100km.

The 600, however, uses a 3.5-litre V6 twin-turbo petrol engine, which is able to produce 305kW and 650Nm while averaging 11.3l/100km.

The new luxury SUV maintains the four-link, axle-type suspension along with rear lateral control arms, similar to its earlier models.

However, it now comes equipped with advanced four-wheel Active Height Control (AHC) and Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) systems that use hydraulic pressure in the shock absorbers to adjust the vehicle’s height and damping force according to the road conditions.

The latest model offers improved handling, reducing the lean in corners by 25% compared to its predecessors. Additionally, the LX boasts 4H and 4L gear ratios, as well as five driving modes, including Eco, Normal, Sport, Sport S+, and Comfort.

The South African pricing for the new Lexus Lx is as follows:
