A look at the R95 million ‘double mansion’ in South Africa’s millionaire hotspot
A two-house property in Hyde Park, Johannesburg, is on the market for R95 million.
According to the 2024 Africa Wealth Report by New World Wealth and Henley&Parnters, Johannesburg is home to the most dollar millionaires in the country, with 12,300 of the nation’s 37,400 high-net-worth individuals (those with roughly R19 million).
Johannesburg is home to the largest stock exchange in Africa by some distance, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.
“Most of Johannesburg’s top-end wealth is concentrated in the suburbs surrounding Sandton City Shopping Centre, which has been dubbed ‘“’the richest square mile in Africa’,” said the report.
“In particular, the Sandton suburbs of Sandhurst, Hyde Park, and Inanda are all home to large numbers of HNWIs.”
According to Seeff, the R95 million property is over 19,000 sqm and situated in arguably Hyde Park’s most prestigious boomed road,
It features two grand homes. The driveway winds up to the highest point of the property, to the first house, which has a motor court and grand porte-cochere at the entrance.
“This home, in palatial style, has reception rooms that stretch the length of the house, a glass-surrounded entertainment patio, and a spacious kitchen,” said Seeff.
Up to the staircase, there are four bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms as well as a study.
There are also three garages, and the motor court can hold at least twenty cars.
There is also a five-bedroom house for the staff, which comes with a lounge/kitchen, two bathrooms, and two toilets.
Four Jo Jo tanks store water for the property, while there is also a tennis court.
The second Georgina-style home has its own entrance, security room and a motor court with four garages.
It comes with lounge, dining, and family rooms, as well as a covered entertainment patio that flows onto the swimming pool. There is also a fitted study and guest suite downstairs.
Upstairs, there is a main suite and three further bedrooms – one is en-suite, while the other two share a full bathroom.
There is a separate large entertainment room with a bar, built-in seating and guest bathroom, which can be used as a cinema room, billiard room, or office space.
Staff quarters also have four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a lounge/ kitchen.
