A look at the R52 million mansion located in South Africa’s new millionaire lifestyle estate hotspot

A house in the Val de Vie Estate near Paarl, which is increasingly becoming a millionaire hotspot, is on the market for R52 million plus VAT.
Pam Golding said that industry experts consistently vote for Val de Vie as one of Africa’s most secure luxury estates.
The property is set over 12,000 sqm and has uninterrupted mountain views.
“Mindfully curated to feature the majestic oak trees, the lush, landscaped garden and rolling lawns lead to a large eco lake where ducks, geese and an abundance of birdlife are part of your everyday life,” said Pam Golding.
“A private vineyard, olive trees, charming walkways, and a stream running down to the lake all add to the idyllic setting. Here, you can build your paddocks and keep horses, grow organic vegetables, herbs or fruit.”
The home, designed by Norval Louw from Louw & Louw Architect, has a double-volume entrance foyer with an engineered wood staircase and frameless glass balustrade.
The foyer leads through the living rooms and out to two wooden decks, one with a gas braai and the other with a pool.
The open-plan living and dining area connect with the kitchen, which has top-of-the-line Siemens and Liebherr appliances and solid granite tops.
“Pellet burners in both the formal and TV lounges ensure a cosy ambience, and a temperature-controlled wine cellar is a welcoming space for enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike.”
Each of the five bedrooms are en suite, while the main suite boasts a stylish dressing room, bathroom with an outdoor shower and a balcony overlooking the garden and eco lake.
A study with an en suite bathroom can also be used as an additional bedroom or workspace.
Other property features include a separate laundry and scullery, three garages, staff quarters, a garden shed, automated irrigation, and a solar and inverter system.
Millionaire hotspot
The latest Africa Wealth Report 2024 from Henley & Partners showed that Cape Town is still the hottest property investment region for Ultra High Net Worth Individuals (UHNWIs). That said
According to the report, the country’s most affluent residential areas are in the ‘Prime 7’ – Clifton, Bantry Bay, Camps Bay, Bishopscourt, Constantia, Llandudno, and St James.
That said, Lance Cohen from Lance Real Estate, the market leader in the Atlantic Seaboard, told BuinsessTech that Cape Town is not the only area in the Western Cape seeing an influx of wealthy individuals.
Cohen said the Val de Vie estate near Paarl is also incredibly popular with the ultra-wealthy.
Nearby Franshoek is also seeing large development, which is limited to Cape Town as most of the city’s land is already in use. Smaller towns in the Western Cape, such as George, also see an influx of the wealthy.
Cohen said the rise of remote work means many wealthy individuals no longer have to be in a major city to do their jobs, boosting the appeal of more rural areas like Val de Vie.
Moreover, Harcourts previously said that Val De Vie is one of the seven “game changer” mixed-use developments that are becoming increasingly popular amongst property buyers and investors in South Africa.
“This development not only offers an unparalleled lifestyle, but it also enables residents to enjoy conveniences within walking distance, thereby enhancing property desirability,” said Harcourts.
