Telkom business VDSL rollout areas
Telkom has confirmed its planned March launch areas of its 20Mbps and 40Mbps VDSL service for businesses.
A spokesperson for the group said that the commercial launch of its 20Mbps and 40Mbps VDSL products in March 2013 will also include special packages aimed at businesses.
VDSL business products, sold through Telkom Business, will include both capped and uncapped packages – though details will be announced closer to the commercial launch, Telkom said.
On Monday (6 January 2012) it was revealed that Telkom Wholesale is planning to launch its DSL Up to 20Mbps and DSL Up to 40Mbps on 4 March 2013 – with retail prices emerging of around R480 for a 20Mbps connection and R650 for a 40Mbps service.
The network rollout will initially be in the same regions as the VDSL pilot areas, Telkom said, namely around the 52 upgraded street distribution cabinets.
This is the same for consumers and businesses.
“Broadband business and consumer customers are treated equally in terms of coverage areas,” Telkom said.
“These services will over time cover the majority of our current broadband subscribers and high growth areas.”
Telkom is currently piloting its high speed VDSL broadband service in Benmore Gardens, Fourways and Waterkloof in Gauteng; Durban North in Kwa-Zulu Natal and Durbanville in the Western Cape.
The company also confirmed to MyBroadband that there will be a tracker where users can check whether their exchange is 20Mbps and 40Mbps enabled.
Businesses looking to buy Telkom’s new products will need a VDSL modem which is backwards compatible with ADSL to ensure optimal performance.
