Telkom has announced that Joburg suburbs Parkview and Parkhurst will receive its new 150Mbps LTE Advanced service.

Telkom is inviting Parkview and Parkhurst residents to trial its new LTE Advanced service free of charge for 14 days – during which time potential customers will receive an LTE router and 20GB of data.

The cost of the service after the free trial is set to be R1,399 for a 100GB monthly package.

It is understood that additional packages will become available in December.

Telkom COO Brian Armstrong announced at the MyBroadband conference on 30 September 2014 that Telkom would commercially launch Long Term Evolution (LTE) Advanced services this year.

Armstrong said that Telkom plans to cover 50 suburbs around the country with LTE-A by March 2015.

Armstrong also unveiled the areas in which they will launch LTE Advanced, which included numerous neighbourhoods in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, and Durban.
