Pictures: UJ Sanlam Auditorium destroyed by fire
Pictures of the aftermath of a fire that gutted the University of Johannesburg’s Sanlam Auditorium have hit social media.
The University of Johannesburg confirmed on Monday that a fire broke out in the institute’s E-ring in the early hours of the morning, gutting the Sanlam Auditorium and damaging the university’s e-labs.
The university said that it is unclear at this stage how the fire started, and that it would investigate the matter. The SAPS said the cause of the fire has not been determined, but a case of arson has been opened at the Brixton police station.
The university’s student representative council (SRC) has condemned any malicious action involved with the fire. No students or faculty were injured in the fire.
Students on campus have posted images of the aftermath to Twitter.
