DStv Mobile is planning to boost its subscriber numbers through increasing the number of devices that are compatible with the Drifta and by broadcasting events like the Olympics 2012 and the UEFA Euro 2012. This is according to Maiyo Simapungula, the PR and communications manager at DStv Mobile.
“Our subscriber numbers are encouraging and we hope that they continue to grow in the new financial year which started on 1 April (2012). We are not in a position to share subscriber numbers as we feel it is premature; observing take-up of the service and consumer feedback are our main focus at present,” said Simapungula.
According to Simapungula, their Drifta and Walka devices received positive feedback from users, and the company is planning to grow DStv platform support for the devices.
“We plan to continue growing the number of devices that are compatible with the Drifta. We also hope that more device manufactures will integrate the DVB-H technology directly onto devices such as handsets,” said Simapungula.
“Future developments of DStv Mobile products and services are dependent on consumer take-up and market behaviour; we are observing these very closely and will use our finding to inform all long term and short term strategies.”
