Electricity production down 2.3% in June – Stats SA

Estimated electricity production fell by 2.3% year on year in June‚ Statistics SA said on Thursday.

The seasonally adjusted electricity production decreased by 2.4% for the second quarter of this year compared with the previous quarter.

There was a month-on-month increase of 1.5% in electricity production in June‚ following a month-on-month increase of 0.5% in May.

Figures showed that the seasonally adjusted electricity consumption decreased by 2.5% for the second quarter of this year compared with the previous quarter.

A month-on-month increase of 1.2% was recorded for June‚ following a month-on-month increase of 0.2% in May.

A year-on-year decrease of 3.1% in the actual volume of electricity consumption was recorded for June.

The total volume of electricity delivered by Eskom to the provinces decreased by 2.8% in June compared with June last year.

Decreases were reported in eight of the nine provinces‚ with the largest volume decrease recorded for KwaZulu-Natal (-212 Gigawatt-hours)‚ followed by Gauteng (-161 Gigawatt-hours) and Mpumalanga (-129 Gigawatthours).
