Business Talk – David Drew on Coca-Cola’s drive towards sustainable packaging

David Drew is the sustainability director for Africa at Coca-Cola, where he is focused on reducing the company’s environmental footprint.

Drew is an experienced commercial executive with a demonstrated history of working in senior roles in the packaging and FMCG industries.

He boasts a BSc (hons) in Chemical Engineering from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, and has worked at companies including packaging manufacturer and producer, ALPLA and Unilever.

In this episode of Business Talk, Drew says that South Africa needs a cohesive treaty on plastic pollution and details what this treaty would entail.

Drew also speaks about the World Without Waste initiative, and explains what Coca-Cola is doing to drive this initiative locally.

He also details Coca-Cola’s innovations in the packaging and bottling space, and discusses the Voluntary Extended Producer Responsibility (VEPR) model.

Drew closes by providing advice to corporations that want to educate consumers about recycling culture.
