In this Business Talk with Michael Avery interview, Matthew Pouncett discusses hedge funds in South Africa and the advantages of investing in them.

Pouncett is a Co-Portfolio Manager at Laurium Capital and has been with the company for over a decade, having joined in 2013 as an Equity Analyst.

He was promoted to his current role in 2019 following six years of stellar performance and execution of his responsibilities.

Pouncett prides himself on working well under pressure and his strong analytical skills, ability to multitask, and prioritise effectively.

Prior to joining Laurium Capital, Pouncett worked at Deloitte, including:

  • Deloitte Corporate Finance – Manager
  • Deloitte USA – Audit Assistant
  • Deloitte SA – Aduit Senior

Pouncett is a qualified Chartered Accountant (South Africa) and a CFA Charter Holder.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Finance from the University of Johannesburg.

Notably, he passed the Board 1 Qualifying Examination for his Chartered Accountant qualification with distinction, having achieved a pass rate of over 75%.
