We are sorry, have free data: Vodacom
Vodacom will compensate subscribers hit by its double debit bug on New Year’s for additional bank charges and lost interest.
That’s the word from Vodacom’s executive head of corporate affairs Tshepo Ramodibe, who was answering questions about the issue on 702 and Cape Talk.
The company also told subscribers it will give them 500MB of free data as an apology for the inconvenience. The data will expire in 7 days from date it is allocated.
After confirming all refunds had been processed and that Vodacom was working with banks to get them through quickly, Ramodibe was challenged on the fact that money that wasn’t theirs lay in their account accruing interest.
“Part of this conversation with financial institutions is to calculate what erroneously came through to us, and what interest customers would have lost,” said Ramodibe.
“We’ve made a commitment, as part of the bank charges we’ll make sure that all of that is rebalanced.”
Once the banks have let Vodacom know what amounts are owed to subscribers, Ramodibe said they will communicate with customers affected by the glitch to ensure a resolution is reached.
“We want to ensure people this was an error and not an exercise in getting additional funding.”
