FNB mobile shows growth in subscriber numbers

Banking group First National Bank (FNB) notes continued growth in the number of subscribers for its mobile network service since launch a little over a year ago.

According to Shadrack Palmer, chief commercial officer for FNB Connect, in August 2016, FNB had over 400,000 subscribers for its mobile network service, up from 200,000 subscribers in April.

FNB launched its service in June 2015. Additional MVNOs in South Africa include Virgin Mobile, me&you mobile and Mr Price Mobile.

Established players include Vodacom which has approximately 35 million local subscribers, MTN, with 30 million, Cell C, with 20 million, and Telkom Mobile, with 2.7 million customers.
