Watch: Taxi hits cyclist in the emergency lane in Joburg
Footage has emerged showing a taxi knocking down a cyclist riding in the emergency lane on Christiaan de Wet Avenue, in Johannesburg.
According to the Randburg Sun, the cyclist, Darrel Fitz-Gerald , on Christiaan de Wet, riding towards Beyers Naudé Drive shortly after 17h00 on 15 November when he was struck by the taxi.
Fitz-Gerald told the paper: “It could have been a lot worse, the taxi was travelling at about 70- to 75km/h when he hit me. I want this driver to be prosecuted.”
The footage, posted by CrimeWatch, shows the taxi speeding in the emergency lane to avoid traffic when it suddenly strikes Fitz-Gerald.
It is believed that the driver was cautioned and fined for his offense, while Fitz-Gerald intends on taking the matter further.
