EFF responds to ANC’s Malema recruitment talk

The Economic Freedom Fighters has dismissed any notion that its leader, Julius Malema, will ever rejoin the ANC.

The Sowetan reported that Mpumalanga ANC chairman David Mabuza wants to bring Malema back into the ruling party.

Mpumalanga’s premier, Mabuza, reportedly said on Sunday  that the ANC was weaker without the former youth league leader.

“You members of the ANCYL, go back to your branches and bring back members that have left the ANC.

“I myself am considering bringing Malema back into the ANC. I am following him, he might be talking too much, but it is better if he spoke like that in the ANC. When I bring him back you must welcome him,” Mabuza said.

Addressing Mabuza’s comments, the EFF said in a statement on Monday that Malema would never be recruited into any political work or formation by a ‘kleptocrat’.

“The EFF regards the proclamation by DD Mabuza, ANC Chair of Mpumalanga, that he has a mission to bring back CIC Julius Malema to ANC as a selfish attempt to raise his profile and make news. Mabuza, who represents nothing ideologically, has taken a decision to use the name of the CIC in his campaign towards the ANC conference.

“We know for sure that he does not mean any of the things he is saying just like those in the ANC who are talking about the land. They are all claiming that they believe in land expropriation without compensation; but we are not fooled because they only use this to gain public attention for their aims to take over the ANC.

“The CIC Julius Malema will never be recruited into any political work or formation by a kleptocrat like Mabuza. DD Mabuza represents everything that is wrong about the ruling party; he is like Zuma’s first born kleptomaniac. Like all kleptocrats they suffer deep ideological bankruptcy because all they know is corruption.

“The CIC Julius Malema is leading a glorious people’s alternative, the EFF which is very close to collapsing DD Mabuza’s ANC. The future has written the ANC off because it betrayed the people and the African Revolution. EFF is the future and no one can stop it.”

In October last year, Malema said he would offer to merge with the ANC to secure a majority rule in the 2019 elections.

In an interview with current affairs show ENCA CheckPoint, Malema said that he believes that in the general elections in 2019, support for the ANC will drop below 50%, while the EFF will increase to between 9% – 10%.

However, more recently, Malema said that only Kgalema Motlanthe can rescue the ANC from its political free-fall.

“If I could choose, I’d choose Kgalema. Kgalema is closest to O.R Tambo. Kgalema can start a process of rebuilding ANC.”

However, he quickly added: “It doesn’t really matter who becomes president of ANC. In 2019 the president will not come from the ANC.”

South Africa’s next election will take place in 2019 when the country will go to the polls to elect a new Parliament and new Provincial Governments.

The ANC meanwhile, holds its national elective conference in December.
