Meet South Africa’s 2017 car of the year winner

South Africa’s 2017 Wesbank Car of the Year (CoTY) was announced at a gala dinner in Gauteng on Wednesday night.
The competition comprised 10 finalists, following a vote by members of the South African Guild of Motoring Journalists (SAGMJ).
The Opel Astra was crowned the 2017 winner, with the Audi A4 placing second, and the Volkswagen Passat third.
The winner of the 2016 competition was the Volvo XC90 SUV, followed by the Ford Fusion, while the Mazda2 took third place.

The Porsche Macan S Diesel won the 2015 prize for best car in SA.
The Astra beat off competition from the following nine other finalists:
- Renault Kadjar
- Mazda CX-3
- Jaguar F-Pace
- Hyundai Tucson
- Honda Civic
- Audi A4
- Toyota Fortuner
- Volkswagen Passat
- Volkswagen Tiguan
