The Rapport and City Press newspapers reported that Telkom, Eskom and Transnet spent a combined R37-million on breakfasts organised by the Gupta family.

According to the newspapers, Telkom spent R12 million sponsoring 12 breakfasts organised by the Gupta-owned New Age newspaper.

The report said further that Transnet spent R17.5 million on 18 breakfast sessions, while Eskom spent R7.2 million to sponsor 6 breakfasts.

Speakers at these breakfasts included ANC bigwigs like Jacob Zuma, Jeff Radebe and Malusi Gigaba.

The multi-million rand breakfast sponsorships came to light after questions from DA MP Kenneth Mubu in parliament.

Mubu argued that it is wrong that government-owned enterprises sponsor these business events, especially because of Zuma’s close relationship with the Guptas.
