Government to scrap increase for public sector
·18 Mar 2020
South Africa’s government has told its workers it will unilaterally implement a budget proposal that they forgo an already agreed wage increase at the beginning of April, the biggest labour federation said.
The federation, the Congress of South African Trade Unions, said it’s examining legal options and may take other steps, said Sizwe Pamla, the group’s spokesman.
Vukani Mbhele, spokesman for Public Service and Administration Minister Senzo Mchunu, didn’t answer two calls seeking comment.
The development was reported earlier by Eyewitness News.
