New R15 billion development in major coastal city in South Africa
Renishaw Coastal Precinct has officially launched a new residential development called Restilridge Farm Estate in KwaZulu-Natal.
Renishaw Coastal Precinct (RCP) is one of South Africa’s largest coastal developments, covering 1,300 hectares across the eThekwini and Umdoni municipalities on the KZN Mid-South Coast.
This new development is driven by Renishaw Property Developments, a subsidiary of Crookes Brothers Limited.
Only 20% of the land is allocated for development, while the remaining 80% is preserved as conservation space, featuring indigenous forests, wetlands, and 40 kilometres of nature trails.
Renishaw Hills, a mature lifestyle estate, is the first development within the precinct. Additionally, the area is home to the Crocworld Adventure & Conservation Centre, which serves as a destination for conservation and education.
Future plans for the precinct include a private school, a hospital, recreational facilities, a shopping centre, a hotel, and a light industrial zone, as well as high-density opportunities. These plans are all designed to stimulate local economic growth and job creation.
With a projected investment of R15 billion upon completion, Renishaw Coastal Precinct is positioned to be a catalyst for sustainable development and economic revitalization on the KZN Mid-South Coast.
Barto van der Merwe, Managing Director of Renishaw Property Developments, stated that following the strong market response to the precinct’s flagship mature lifestyle estate, Renishaw Hills, the new development is expected to attract buyers seeking a secure coastal lifestyle that combines modern convenience with the charm of countryside living on the KZN Mid-South Coast.
“This land forms part of the history of Crookes Brothers Limited, a business that has farmed and contributed to this area for generations. That legacy comes with responsibility,” said van der Merwe.
“We want to create something that respects the history of the farm, strengthens the surrounding area and adds lasting value,” he said.
He said that there is a growing demand for quality residential estates that offer both lifestyle value and long-term investment potential.
“Restilridge has been designed to answer that demand in a truly unique way. Residents will enjoy the tranquillity of a coastal farming lifestyle while remaining close to essential amenities, schools, retail centres, and transport routes.”
“It’s a concept unlike anything currently available on the South Coast, and we anticipate significant interest once launched.”

The estate, located within the 1,300-hectare Renishaw Coastal Precinct in Scottburgh, will feature 32 renovated pioneer homes and 35 modern farm-style homes.
Additionally, there will be 30 new sectional title homes designed for a “lock-up-and-go lifestyle.”
Van der Merwe said that, in accordance with the precinct’s conservation-focused urban planning, each home will be designed to harmonise with the natural environment. Homebuyers will also have the opportunity to provide input.
“This supports a community lifestyle of children riding bikes along the peaceful lanes, neighbours meeting up for early-morning yoga, and families exploring scenic trails or enjoying the many amenities on offer.”
“As part of the Renishaw Coastal Precinct, Restilridge will also be self-reliant,” he said.
He said that through RenSERV, a Renishaw Property Developments company, the estate will be provided with potable water, modern sanitation systems, waste management, road maintenance of access roads, and solar capability.
The KZN Mid-South Coast is increasingly popular among semigration buyers and investors looking for lifestyle-driven property opportunities.
With Blue Flag beaches, nature reserves, dive sites, and golf courses nearby, the region continues to attract attention. Van der Merwe said that the expanding infrastructure also enhances its appeal.
He said that Restilridge Farm Estate is an attractive choice for retirees, families, and investors alike, as property values in this area are competitively priced.
