Top iPhone and iPad apps of 2013
Apple has revealed its top selling a free apps for iPhone and iPad in 2013, as well as the Apple team’s best picks.
In Apple’s annual “Best of iTunes” list, the company lists the most downloaded digital content on iTunes, including apps, books, music and movies.
Apple’s “editor’s choice” award for top iPhone app was revealed to be Duolingo, a language learning app – with free photo editing app, VSCO Cam and child vocabulary booster, Endless Alphabet, as runners-up.
Apple’s best iPad app was Disney’s $9.99 interactive film vault tour, Disney Animated – with music maker, Traktor DJ, and the WWF Together app as runners-up.
In terms of top sales and downloads, owners of Apple’s iDevices appear to favour the platforms for gaming, with a large portion of the top free and paid-for apps coming from that category.
The indie PC game that took the world by storm, Minecraft, had another successful year on the iOS platform, topping the list on both iPad and iPhone for paid apps – while the highly addictive Candy Crush Saga accomplished the same for free apps.

In terms of other content on iTunes, Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience was the top-selling album (followed by Beyonce’s new album), while Macklemore’s “Thrift Shop” was the top-selling song.
The latest James Bond film, Skyfall was the top-selling movie on iTunes, with Breaking Bad the top-downloaded TV show, and Dan Brown’s Inferno the top-selling book.
