Price hike for SA iTunes App Store
Apple has notified application developers that it will increase retail prices in its App Store for five currencies, including Rand, within the next 24 hours.
These changes were made to account for changes in foreign exchange rates, Apple’s e-mail to its App Store customer base said.
According to the e-mail, retail prices will be increased for the following currencies:
- Australian Dollar
- Indian Rupee
- Indonesian Rupiah
- Turkish Lira
- South African Rand
Retail prices for Israeli New Shekels and some price tiers for the New Zealand Dollar will be decreased, Apple said.
Developers decide on prices for their apps based on certain pre-set tiers, which means that developers whose apps are currently on pricing tier 2 or higher could still select a lower tier to reduce (or eliminate) the effects of the increase.
It is understood that only pricing in the App Store will be affected and not the iTunes music, movie, or book stores.
Asked for comment on the retail price adjustments, Apple provided the following statement: “We made some minor pricing adjustments due to changes in foreign exchange rates and local tax laws.”
