Eskom suspends load shedding intermittently – here’s the new schedule

 ·9 Dec 2023

Power utility Eskom says it will suspend load shedding for four hours today and for most of the day on Sunday.

Eskom said that due to improved generation capacity availability and adequate emergency reserves, load shedding will be suspended from 12:00 midday today until 17:00.

Stage 2 load shedding will resume from 17:00 until 21:00 this evening. Thereafter, load shedding will be suspended again from 21:00 today until 16:00 on Sunday.

Eskom will publish the weekly outlook tomorrow afternoon and communicate should any significant changes occur.

Saturday, 9 December

  • Suspended: 12h00 to 17h00
  • Stage 2: 17h00 to 21h00
  • Suspended: 21h00 to 00h00

Sunday, 10 December

  • Suspended: 00h00 to 05h00
  • Suspended: 05h00 to 16h00

The capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 7,321MW. Approximately 2,100MW of generating capacity is anticipated to return to service by Monday morning.

Given the sudden changes made to load shedding schedules over the past few weeks, South Africans should expect more changes as they happen.
