Load-shedding risk low this week: Eskom

 ·24 Nov 2014

Eskom says that there is a low risk of rolling blackouts happening this week, according to Bloomberg.

The struggling power utility said that load-shedding over the weekend allowed it to refuel some of its capacity.

Eskom declared a power emergency over the past weekend, after losing 1700MW of generating power. The utility implemented stage two load-shedding across the country.

“We are certainly taking strain and we apologize to our customers, we know there has been a lot of frustration,” Eskom spokesman, Andrew Etzinger, said on SAfm.

Etzinger said further that preservation measures put thje group in a position where “in the coming week we’ve got a good chance of coming through without load-shedding, despite quite a lot of pressure from out supply chain.”

The company tweeted late on Sunday evening that the probability for load shedding would low during the day on Monday, with a possible increased risk during the evening peak, 5pm to 10pm.
