Cape Town, South Africa – 10 October 2024 – Parklands College, a Top 20 School in the Western Cape, known for its innovative leadership across the country, is proud to announce a groundbreaking partnership with Trinity Preparatory School of Florida, a leading independent secondary school in the United States.

This collaboration will establish a comprehensive aerospace, robotics and cultural exchange programme, providing learners with unparalleled scientific research, innovation, and international opportunities.

After many years of providing hands-on Space research and exploration opportunities for its learners Parklands College formally announced the beginning of its STAR (Science, Technology, Aerospace and Robotics) programme in January 2023.

The purpose of this programme is to inspire learners to explore and research space as well as understand our Earth. As a MaxIQ Space Centre of Excellence, Parklands College has accessed professional, real-world space camps and experiences for its learners.

One of its learners successfully installed a TinyGS Ground Station to communicate with satellites. More recently, their learner STAR team placed a scientific instrument on a NASA High Altitude Balloon to take essential measurements in the stratosphere.

The partnership with Trinity Preparatory School of Florida, initiated by the Sakhikamva Foundation, supports Parklands College’s vision of inspiring and impacting both learners and staff so that they can find their purpose.

The collaboration aligns perfectly with the College’s commitment to fostering creativity and innovation through the joint development of a MaxIQ Space instrument, with the ambitious goal of sending it to the International Space Station in August 2025.

Together, with the Cape Academy of Maths, Science and Technology, these institutions aim to drive scientific advancement and cultural exchange, broadening global perspectives by connecting learners from around the world and inspiring them to pursue careers in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). As the collaboration progresses, learners will also have the opportunity to participate in an exclusive international exchange.

“We are thrilled to announce this partnership with Trinity Prep School,” said Richard Knaggs, Director of Technology and Innovation at Parklands College. “By working together, we can offer our learners invaluable global learning experiences, equipping them with the skills, knowledge and exposure needed to excel in a space-earth future.”

In addition to this exciting partnership, Parklands College & Christopher Robin Pre-Primary recently announced that they have been recognised by Apple as a Distinguished School for their fourth consecutive programme term, 2024–2027. This recognition celebrates Parklands College for inspiring, imagining, and impacting teaching and learning through continuous innovation.

Parklands College and Trinity Preparatory School are dedicated to providing their learners with a top quality, global education and are confident that this partnership will achieve that goal.
