Discovery Bank to offer DStv rewards and crypto
Discovery Bank has announced a host of new products and features, including partnerships with Luno, Adymt and MultiChoice.
The bank said that the updates build on its enhancements in financial planning and wellbeing, sophisticated security features and more intelligent banking.
Discovery Bank has expanded its partner network and added DStv to its entertainment benefits in the Discovery Bank app.
From Q2, Discovery Bank will allow clients to earn up to 25% back in Discovery Miles on DStv decoder packages.
Customers can also earn up to 50% back in Discovery Miles on streaming packages.
Clients can also earn up to 25% back in Discovery Miles when they pay their MultiChoice debit orders from a Discovery Bank account from December 2025.
Discovery Bank will also enable direct crypto trading on its app, in partnership with Luno. The bank will enable trading in over 50 cryptocurrency assets starting from December 2025.
“The financial world is evolving fast, and crypto assets have matured to become an accessible, mainstream asset class,” said Hylton Kallner, CEO of Discovery Bank.
“Our clients – and South Africans more generally – are already engaged in this market, with 1 in 10 people holding crypto assets, and our regulation leading in the region and aligning with global norms.”
Discovery Bank will reward customers with Vitality Money Savings points for crypto balances in their Luno wallets.
“It provides Discovery Bank clients with access to the full liquidity and breadth of crypto-asset options provided by Luno, in the convenience of their Discovery Bank app,” added Kallner.
James Lanigan, CEO of Luno, stated that the partnership is a first-of-its-kind in Africa, as it integrates digital asset investing directly into a major mobile banking platform.
“Customer trust, safety and experience are central aspects for both Discovery Bank and
Luno, which makes this partnership a perfect fit,” said Lanigan.
Another partnership is with Admyt, the creator of a ticketless parking app. Discovery Bank clients can now earn Discovery Miles back when using Admyt.
“When clients make an in-store purchase of R250 or more with a Discovery Bank card between December 2025 and January 2026, and park using the Admyt app, we will automatically refund the parking costs in Discovery Miles,” said Kallner.
This benefit will be activated once clients link their Discovery Bank card to the Admyt app to pay for parking at over 70 locations across South Africa, including Sandton City and the Waterfront.
Discovery’s internal changes
Discovery is also introducing a host of other improvements across its own product lines. On top of its existing bank security features, it has also added a new TRUST Alert system.
“Our intelligent TRUST Alert system monitors potential fraud threats and identifies transactions that pose a risk, based on personal patterns, behaviours and other known financial safety threats,” said Kallner.
“Every in-app and secure payment is analysed in real time, with a prominent TRUST Alert warning being displayed to clients about transactions when needed.”
The Discovery Bank app will also feature greater integration with other Discovery products, allowing clients to obtain a motor insurance quote directly via the app.
The process is as quick as a typical banking transaction, utilising pre-populated data for speed and accuracy.
