Amazon launches first Prime Day in South Africa – times and deals
Amazon’s flagship annual global Prime Day sale will launch in South Africa for the first time on 23 June, with Prime members having seven days to shop thousands of member-exclusive deals.
The sale will kickstart on 23 June at 00:01 and run until 29 June, offering exclusive deals to Prime members.
Amazon launched Prime in South Africa on 3 June 2026, which allows South Africans to get unlimited FREE Same-Day and Next-Day Delivery in major cities on eligible items with no minimum spend.
The subscription also gives access to Amazon Prime Video and free games with Amazon Luna. Prime offers a 30-day free trial, or you can be billed monthly at R59/month or annually at R399/year.
According to research from HarrisX, South African shoppers are becoming far more strategic and deal-focused during major sales events.
40% of South Africans compare prices before purchasing during major sales, 33% make shopping lists ahead of shopping events, and 30% wait specifically for discounts before purchasing certain items.
The findings also reinforced that South African shoppers are looking for memberships that combine strong value, convenience, entertainment, and reliability.
Amazon said the sale will offer deep discounts on big-ticket items that members have been waiting to buy.
This includes savings on school holiday activities, 40% off toys for kids, and essentials for friends-and-family get-togethers.
Amazon added that Prime Day is a good time to stock up on household items, including irons, air fryers, clothes dryers, braai sets, and Lego. Further deals will be clear to see when Prime Day officially launches.
