Popular coffee brand in South Africa opening new restaurant in luxury development
Popular coffee shop Naked Coffee is set to open in the luxury One Rosebank residential development near Rosebank Mall.
One Rosebank is a residential development in Johannesburg that integrates apartments, restaurants, retail spaces, and resident amenities in one of the city’s most prestigious areas.
Located at 37 Cradock Avenue in Rosebank, the development is within walking distance of Rosebank Mall, The Zone, and The Firs, and is just a two-minute drive from the Rosebank Gautrain Station.
Developed by the Tricolt Group in partnership with Kent Gush Properties, Phase 2 of this project is currently available for sale.
One Rosebank was designed to promote walkable urban living, allowing residents to access shops, restaurants, transportation, and other services without relying too much on a car.
The development also offers 24-hour security, CCTV surveillance, biometric access control, secure basement parking, and electric vehicle charging bays.
Backup power and water supply are provided, along with high-speed fibre internet for residents.
One Rosebank will provide residents with direct access to Rosebank retail, restaurants, and cafés, including Naked Coffee, located within the building.
Naked Coffee was founded in 2015 by Shaun Els and Victor Barbosa, initially operating from a small coffee hut in Melrose Arch before expanding into the Morningside Shopping Centre.
“A love for coffee, paired with an acute attention to quality, was the driving force that led us to begin this journey, which drove us to open Naked Coffee in 2015,” Victor Barbosa told SA Homeowner magazine.
From Naked Coffee to Naked Kitchen

In 2017, the founders of Naked Coffee had transformed the concept into Naked Kitchen & Coffee Bar, adding a food offering to their coffee business.
“Naked Kitchen is a recipe consisting of the things we love – fresh produce, passion and beautiful home-style cooking,” said Barbosa.
The founders wanted to ensure that their food offerings also included fresh, seasonal ingredients.
The Morningside location, which was one of the brand’s first stores, focused on fresh produce, home-style cooking, and takeaway food, along with coffee brewed from Naked Coffee’s exclusive blend.
This location has a contemporary interior designed by Tristan du Plessis, founder of the boutique interior architecture firm Studio A.
The space was custom-designed and includes unique furniture, leather and brass light fixtures, and handmade forest-green tiles.
“Our vision is to create a brand of excellence that can stand out in any city across the globe. Johannesburg is just the beginning,” Barbosa said.
Naked Coffee has expanded to six locations, with five stores in Johannesburg and one in Sea Point, Cape Town.
The Johannesburg stores are strategically situated in popular areas, including Illovo, Hyde Park, Sandton, Morningside, and Melrose Arch, with a new location opening soon in Rosebank.
Naked Coffee features Scandinavian-inspired interiors, minimalist decor, and a particular emphasis on the colour green.
The café takes pride in using premium, single-origin coffee beans, roasted to enhance their best flavours. While coffee is the main attraction, Naked Coffee has also become popular for its selection of food.
The brand has a breakfast menu, which includes options like avocado toast on sourdough, buttery croissants, or their famous Naked Benedict. It also offers a lunch menu, which includes wraps, gourmet sandwiches, and salads.
In May 2026, Naked Coffee launched Naked After Dark, a curated menu of dinner dishes available in the evenings from Wednesday to Saturday, exclusive to the Illovo branch.
