First National Bank (FNB) has launched free WhatsApp messaging for all Connect subscribers.
The bank warned however, that the free WhatsApp promotion runs until the 31st of July 2016.
FNB recently claimed that it has more than doubled the number of subscribers for its mobile network service over the past five months.
According to Shadrack Palmer, chief commercial officer of FNB Connect, the company now has more than 200,000 subscribers, having launched less than a year ago in June 2015.
In a press statement on Tuesday, FNB said that the growing demand for data usage and a large portion of Connect customers using the WhatsApp service on a daily basis has prompted FNB Connect to provide the service for free.
Additionally, FNB Connect sees this as a valuable addition for customers who also benefit from up to 40% back in eBucks on their Connect SIM spend, it said.
During this period customers will be able to use the WhatsApp Messenger service free from any data costs. This means that customers are not required to have any data, to use WhatsApp.
FNB switched on LTE services on all Connect SIMs in April. FNB Connect is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that rides on Cell C’s network.
