FNB has announced that share investing is now available on its banking app for both smartphones and tablets.

According to the bank, the app allows full trading functionality, allowing customers to buy, sell, and track their investments through the app.

Customers who make use of the banking app on their tablets will also be able to open new share investment accounts.

Customers can now open any of the share investing products:

  • Share Saver, which allows regular monthly investments in the top 100 JSE listed shares;
  • Share Builder, which allows customers to choose from a basket of 24 pre-selected blue-chip shares, including Krugerrands; and
  • Share Investor, which allows customers to invest in the full range of JSE listed shares and Krugerrands.

The new version of the FNB Banking App allows FNB Share Investing customers to keep track of their investments with an overview of their shares and SENS information, as well as view market indicators to help customers make informed decisions about trading in shares, FNB said.

With the trading functionality, customers can also buy and sell JSE listed shares, Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) and Krugerrands.

To make use of the new features, customers need to download or upgrade to the latest version of FNB’s banking app via the app store on their device.

The app is available on iPhones, iPads, Android phones and tablets – and now users of Windows 8 tablets also have access to the app, the bank said.

“Existing customers of both the Banking App and Share Investing are very similar and it makes sense to develop the new version of the Banking App to include the Share Investing functionality,” said Giuseppe Virgillito, Head of Banking App, FNB Mobile and Connect.

“90% of Share Investing customers trade online and a further 60% of these customers have access to a Smart device, an overlap which necessitated the need for Share Investing on the FNB Banking App,” he said.
